about

This is an introduction to the various musical projects Michael Weeks has created over 20 years. Focusing on a somewhat harmonious range of material, and sticking to just instrumentals, this collection gives you a one hour tour of the various phases of his three main projects: Etherine, IVILION, and The Wretch.

In simple terms - the ideas behind each all come from the same fount, but the execution is the difference.

Etherine alternates between melodic ambience and strongly defined songs, using a variety of instrumentation and techniques all ultimately building a world of bliss and nostalgia.

IVILION creates otherworldly soundtracks with no fear of chaos or distortion, but always with an aim to create a space to be in.

The Wretch aims to take all of those elements and create a frenetic and comprehensive soundscape of broken things. The execution has varied wildly over the releases, but the core has always been about taking broken sounds and making something whole with them.

Also included is a lone track by Darkfilter, which shows some of the darkwave/synthpop/industrial elements in their softer side.

This album omits the newer releases, and omits some projects (Sythilix and Zerodivided most notably) as they stretch into sonic territory that felt out of place on this collection. But if this is helpful we can certainly pull together a part two!
